Kolkata, 12th July, 2022; "Shabaash Mithu"..... as the film is nearing its release date, the of this film is leaving no stone unturned to promote the film. Taapsee Pannu, Mithali Raj alongwith the national award winning Director Srijit Mukherji visited Eden Gardens, in Kolkata to promote their film and kickstarted their city promotion.
On the visit Legendary cricketer Mithali Raj said, "Eden Gardens is one of the warmest home of cricket and it my absolute pleasure to be here. Playing here has been an honour and and it feels humbling, being here today for "Shabaash Mithu."
Power-house performer, Taapsee Pannu said, "It feels surreal kicking off our city trail from here. I have watched many matches here but never imagined that I would be standing here for a movie. It's a different feeling, knowing and understanding the history and the importance of this space to the sports. "
Filmmaker and true cricket lover, Srijit Mukherji was overjoyed as he added, "I feel it's only apt to start this innings from my home ground. It's heartwarming and an honour."
Viacom 18 Studios much anticipated Film and directed by Srijit Mukherji, "Shabaash Mithu" based on the life of iconic cricketer Mithali Raj. It's a biopic on Indian skipper Mithali Raj starring Taapsee Pannu and Inayath Verma, who portray the legendary cricketer in her adulthood and childhood respectively. While Taapsee Pannu takes the lead role in the film, she is supported by one of the finest actors in the industry, Vijay Raaz who plays Raj's coach. The Film briefly showcases how Mitali's coach discovered her talent and and convince her parents to let her join the academy. It is also shown that she went through a lot of struggles not just during her childhood, but also after joining other senior players at the cricket camp. Actor Vijay Raaz potrays Mithali during her training sessions to being sledged by the girls during her teenage and facing a hard at the net. The movie showcases Mithali Raj's struggle to earn the deserved respect and recognition. Overcoming all the obstacles that life threw at her, the Film shows how Mithali impressed her team members and and the selectors to earn her national call-up. The Film has a strong take on the patriarchal society and the typical mindset of people who feel that women can't excel in sport, and even if they can they can't do it better than their male counterparts. Produced by Viacom 18 and directed by Srijit Mukherji, the Film "Shabaash Mithu" releases on 15th July, 2022.
